WHY THIS MATTERS IN BRIEF
In this keynote futurist Matthew Griffin discusses how new technologies and trends are fundamentally re-writing how businesses run and operate, what that means for the human workforce, and why automation could be the best thing for human potential in human history.
Firstly, thank you to the team from Discover, the company behind the Discover card whose global payments network supports more than 55 Million merchants and enables over $500 Billion worth of payments annually, for inviting me to be the keynote at their annual global partner summit held in Valencia, Spain, where I was asked to present the Future of Work.
With over 57 Million card holders, $13 Billion in revenues, and more than 17,000 employees around the world Discover is one of the most recognised payment providers in the world. However, while all these stats are amazing what’s even more noteworthy is that 87% of their employees rate Discover as a great place to work, and it was easy to see why.
Relax and rewind the keynote
During my keynote I walked the audience through a variety of key topics including the forces responsible for accelerating the world’s rate of change, and then walked them through future company business models and the trends that will change how we work, where we work, and who and what we work with, complete with examples.
From machines as colleagues and co-workers to the democratisation of skills, the rise of tele-operations, and the differences between automated, autonomous, and augmented work programs, and how these can benefit everyone, we discussed a huge amount in a short space of time before heading off to a Q&A session off camera.
