Kip and Paula at HNTB and Eric Kalivoda from the Louisiana Governor's office and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development invited Matthew to present on the future outlook for the state of Louisiana, and all the topics that will shape it.
Titled Future State, the session for the state legislature drew on a large body of research that Matthew and his team had gathered over the previous eighteen months. It examined how global, national and local STEEP trends (societal, technological, economic, environmental and political) could affect the state's economic, industrial and social health over the next 30 years.

The work was designed to inform the state's 2055 transportation strategy, under the Louisiana Department of Transportation and the US Department of Transportation's umbrella strategy. Matthew looked at how emerging technologies and trends could affect the state's education programmes, workforce and population distribution, how climate change could affect the insurability and viability of its coastlines, energy sector and infrastructure, and what all of this means for every part of the economy.
The floor then opened to questions, of which there were plenty, and the session closed by looking ahead to the next round of scenario planning sessions.
