Formula 1 legend Mark Blundell and the MBP team invited Matthew to their first London investor summit, held at the RAC Club near Piccadilly. After a winning touring car racing season, Mark brought his sponsors and community together to celebrate.

With celebration in the air, the evening was the perfect moment to pay homage to human ambition and potential. Matthew opened it by taking the audience on a journey into their own limitless futures, where ambition, power and opportunity are abundant and within everyone's reach.

"Technologies such as AI are giving every one of us access to all knowledge and all skills for the cost of a McDonalds meal."Matthew Griffin, London, March 2025

In the short keynote he first looked at ambition, including people such as Sam Altman, whose world-changing ambitions go far beyond ‘just’ building the first Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) system. He then turned to power, and how increasingly capable technologies such as AI are giving every one of us access to all knowledge and all skills for the cost of a McDonald's meal.

Ambition and power mean little without the opportunity to use them, so Matthew closed by showing how everyone, today and in the future, has unlimited opportunity to improve themselves and the world, to improve their station in life, and to build companies that reach billions of consumers in hours. Despite all the worry and hype, he argued, the future is anything but dystopian, provided we tap into our own purpose and the communities that help us achieve individual and collective greatness.

What this means for your leadership team

Capability is no longer scarce.

The keynote argued that capable technology now gives each person access to all knowledge and all skills. For a leadership team, that removes a long-standing advantage based on who can afford expertise. Your edge has to come from purpose, judgement and the people around you.

Individuals can now build at scale.

Matthew said people can build companies that reach billions of consumers in hours. That fits the 311 trend of the power of the individual, where one person with the right tools and global platforms can start and run a company alone. Expect smaller, faster rivals and new partners in places you do not look.

Ambition is rising, so plan for it.

The session pointed to leaders whose goals go far beyond building the first Artificial General Intelligence system. 311 places that technology in the Explore group, so it is worth tracking without betting on it yet. Meanwhile, general purpose technologies and AI coaching are already changing how teams learn and work.

Three questions for your next leadership meeting

  1. Where does our advantage lie if knowledge and skills are available to everyone?
  2. Which of our people could now build something alone that once needed a team?
  3. How are we using community and purpose to attract and keep talent?

Questions and answers

What does this session mean for organisations?

It suggests that access to knowledge and skills will stop separating strong firms from weak ones. Organisations will need to compete on purpose, speed and the strength of the communities they build. Leaders should review which of their advantages depend on scarce expertise.

How does Artificial General Intelligence relate to the keynote?

The keynote used the ambitions of people such as Sam Altman, who aim well beyond building the first Artificial General Intelligence system, to show how large today's goals are. 311 lists the technology as one to explore, since it is an early idea of a machine that could do any thinking task a person can. Leaders should follow it closely and not yet build plans around it.

How does the power of the individual relate to the keynote?

It is the core of the opportunity section. Matthew said people can now build companies that reach billions of consumers in hours. 311 treats this as a trend to act on now, because AI tools and global platforms let one person start and run companies alone.

How can 311 brief our leadership team on this?

311 offers a private executive briefing or leadership workshop, tailored to your sector. Sessions are held in person first.
