The news

NVIDIA reported a record fault-tolerant quantum computing simulation on the JUPITER supercomputer, and The Rundown AI reported an $18B SoftBank bet on robot guards. On security, ExtremeTech reported Indian officials saying AI agents accessed IT and communications systems, and The Economic Times reported an IMF warning that attacks on critical financial infrastructure could disrupt payments and market confidence. Bloomberg reported JPMorgan calling CoreWeave's business sound despite debt fears, while The Edge Singapore reported US homebuilder sentiment at a 14-year low.

The activity

The Tower counted 12,518 stories across 63 countries, with technology at 24 per cent. Security and defence was the only topic where public attention rose over the week, up 6 per cent, while health fell furthest. Events in the news included the Global South Forum, the Belt and Road Journalists Forum, the IMF and World Bank meetings, and a Russian proposal for a trilateral Ukraine summit at APEC.

The direction

The signals suggest capability gains in computing and automation are arriving alongside more exposed systems. Leaders may wish to watch how AI agents are governed inside critical networks, and whether regulators treat cyber resilience as a stability issue. Rising security attention against falling attention to energy and risk could leave slower vulnerabilities under-examined. Debt-funded AI infrastructure and weak housing sentiment are early signs of strain worth tracking.
