The news

Reuters reported a new cyberattack on supermarket fridges across Europe, which the Korea Times said exposed weak connected devices. Fortune reported that Bank of America warned of a prolonged AI correction, the day before a US midterm vote framed around data-centre backlash. The Washington Post reported that Anthropic posted $17B in quarterly revenue, with losses continuing, in an IPO filing. In India and Nigeria, deepfake concerns drew attention, with INEC warning they could undermine the 2027 polls.

The activity

Technology led coverage with 24 per cent of news, followed by security and defence. Energy had the most event stories, at 136. Over seven days, attention fell furthest in cities and infrastructure, down 17 per cent, while risk and resilience rose 4 per cent. Events in the news included the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo in Delhi, the Russia-Africa Summit, COP31 in Türkiye and the Seoul AI Summit.

The direction

The signals suggest digital trust is becoming a shared operational concern across devices, financial platforms and elections. Leaders may wish to watch whether the fridge attacks prompt wider scrutiny of connected equipment, and how markets and regulators respond to AI valuation worries after the US midterms. Energy attention is falling while event activity stays high, which could mean the agenda is shifting from announcements to investment decisions around COP31.
