Technology and cyber security dominate coverage while attention to energy and work falls
What the world’s news said about the future on 1 November 2026, from the 311 Foresight Tower.
Technology led with 1,481 stories, 24 per cent of coverage. Outlets reported that Anthropic is seeking a stock market listing, that Google's Gemini 4 Carbon targets coding and cyber security tasks, and that an Accenture contractor allegedly gave an AI agent access to a secure Pentagon network. Traders Union reported strain on cyber security firms as AI-enabled attacks surge. WSLS reported that the FBI blamed North Korea for the Binance theft.
Coverage concentrated in technology, then security and defence. Public attention to security and defence rose 14 per cent over the week, the largest rise, while work and education fell 17 per cent. Geopolitics produced the most event stories. Events in the news included the G20 summit, a Commonwealth summit, a Russia-Africa summit and a Montreal summit where the EU signed agreements with Canada. Times of Malta reported that Brazil's Lula will attend COP31 in Turkey.
The signals suggest cyber security is becoming a board-level concern as AI tools gain access to sensitive systems and attackers use the same tools. Leaders should watch how controls on AI agents tighten and whether AI firms heading to public markets draw closer scrutiny. Falling attention to work and energy does not mean those issues are settling. The summit calendar, including COP31, is a signal to watch for climate and trade commitments.
