The news

The Washington Post reported that Americans are anxious about the AI boom going bust, and Chosun Ilbo linked a $3.5T fall in global market capitalisation to fears of Democratic Party AI regulation. Local outlets reported that University Hospitals restored its MyChart system after a cybersecurity incident disrupted digital services for over three weeks. Medical Daily reported that Novartis confirmed nine tumour reports after Zolgensma therapy. Outlets reported US charges over a $129m deepfake fraud.

The activity

Technology made up 26 percent of the 7,306 stories counted over the past day, well ahead of any other topic. Over the week, public attention rose most for governance and policy, up 28 percent, while security and defence fell 21 percent. Event coverage centred on COP31 in Antalya and the World Media Summit in Beijing, with a World AI Regulation Summit in London also reported.

The direction

The signals suggest AI regulation is becoming a market variable as well as a policy matter. Leaders may wish to watch how investors respond to concrete US proposals and whether anxiety spreads beyond technology shares. The long hospital outage shows that recovery time, not only prevention, defines cyber resilience. COP31 will test whether climate diplomacy holds attention while energy costs, flagged by Minister Şimşek, remain a concern. Gene therapy safety findings and deepfake fraud may draw tighter oversight.
